Bladder cancer involves malignant cell growth inside the walls of the urinary bladder which can result in a malignant tumor. The exact cause of bladder cancer is unknown. It is believed that smoking and environmental exposure can play a role in the development of this disease.

Traditional treatment options for bladder cancer
There are various treatment options for bladder cancer. Traditional treatments can begin with the removal of the tumor, removal of part of the bladder, or the entire bladder. Additional treatment options include the use of toxic medicines. Your doctor may suggest:
  • Surgery
  • Radiation therapy
  • Chemotherapy
Radiation therapy may also be considered an option for some bladder cancer patients. Radiation therapy is used in an attempt to destroy cancerous cells and cause a reduction in tumor size. It is most often used for bladder cancer that has metastasized. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy are often performed simultaneously.
