New passport law, effective June 1st 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 15 May 2009 21:19

On June 1st, 2009, the US Government implemented the full requirements of the air, land and sea phase of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initative. This rule reqired most US citizens entering the US at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card or other travel documents approved by the Department of Homeland Security. This means our patients and their companions need proper travel documents.

To apply for a passport, go to the state department website: www.travel.state.gov/passport. Please note the section to click on if you need your passport in a hurry.

In addition, patients coming through the US will need a Tourist Visa. Our driver will take you to the Visa office and assist you with this. You will need to show your documents, complete a brief form and pay $22. cash to obtain your Visa.

Several of our Hope4Cancer patients have had successful transactions with the online service of Passportexpress.com. Hope4Cancer Institute posts this information for your convenience but does not make recommendations of passport agencies for your use.

Swine Influenza Outbreak PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 28 April 2009 11:28

As you have likely heard from the media, there has been an outbreak of Swine Flu in the United States and Internationally. Hope4Cancer Institute would like to share with you the situation as it relates to Southern California and Mexico. As of today there have been NO documented cases of Swine Flu in Baja California.

In response to the Swine Flu outbreak, Hope4Cancer Institute is observing the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control in the United States and the Mexican Ministry of Health. We have been and will continue to exercise all necessary precautions to prevent disease transmission.

What You Can Do to Stay Healthy

There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.

Try to avoid close contact with sick people:

  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Fear, sometimes clouds judgement and perspective. The current outbreak of "Swine Flu", has caused alarm worldwide. The flu, if contracted has killed people, but so does the regular everyday strains of flu. This gives arise to the question "is this alarm warranted ?" Let me give some examples:

After a whole week of knowledge of the flu's existence it has sickened at least 2000 people in Mexico. 1000 were in Mexico city, a highly congested area of 18 million plus people.

According to Health officials in Mexico during the same time period.. "Mexico's Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordoba said 68 people have died of flu and the new swine flu strain had been confirmed in 20 of those deaths."

48 people died of the standard grade flu, and 20 died of the Swine Flu. If 0. 1 % ( 1/10th) of Mexico city became ill with the swine flu there would be 18,000 cases, there are only a little over 1000... hardly an epidemic.

In the 15 week total of the 2008-2009 flu season in the United States... 55 children died of the regular flu. Are parents pulling their children from schools because of this? Not at all, for this is just the flu, not the "Swine Flu".

If Swine Flu is so bad... in the past couple of weeks it should have spread like wildfire through the population of Mexico City. Relatives that live with the deceased have not come down with the disease a good week after the death.

My thoughts are to be careful with ones health and take no unwarranted risks. It could be worthwhile do further research on your own about the situation.
